Description

The Idaho Department of Health and Welfare (DHW) was created in 1974 to provide for the health and human services needs of the people of Idaho. The DHW seeks to achieve its goals through the following divisions and agencies: Division of Community Rehabilitation; Division of Health includes the Bureau of Maternal and Child Health; the Bureau of Emergency Medical Services; the Bureau of Preventive Medicine; the Bureau of Laboratories; the Bureau of Facility Standards; and the Cooperative Center for Health Statistics. The Division of Veterans Affairs helps veterans to obtain benefits that are not automatically awarded and maintains a residence for disabled and destitute veterans and a nursing home for veterans. The Division of Welfare includes the Bureau of Medical Assistance, which provides medical services to persons receiving financial assistance to children in foster care, persons in nursing homes, and developmentally disabled persons.

Print Resources

The Health Education Section prints a wide variety of educational materials for the various programs of the Department and materials designed to help consumers understand and use the health care and human services offered by the Department. A curriculum for use in kindergarten through senior high health education classes has been developed. Serial publication: bulletin, monthly--general information on veterans affairs, technical information for service officers, activities of the veterans home and hospital, and current rules and regulations affecting veterans. Library catalogs and materials are available by writing to the Health Education Section, Bureau of Preventive Medicine.
