May 27, 2005 / Vol. 54 / No. 20
MMWR Introduction
According to the article, “Tobacco Use
and Cessation Counseling—Global Health Professionals Survey Pilot Study,
10 Countries, 2005,” released in the May 27, 2005, issue of the Centers
for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) journal, Morbidity and Mortality
Weekly Report, the majority (72%–99%) of dental, medical,
nursing and pharmacy students from 10 countries believe they should receive
training in counseling patients to quit smoking. Unfortunately, only a small

to do that. The report is collaboration between CDC, the World Health Organization
(WHO), and the Canadian Public Health Association (CPHA).
