ENERGY STAR Labeled Building Profile

Allegheny Clarion Valley High School
Box 345
Foxburg, PA 16036

building

The Junior-Senior High School was originally built in 1964. It was designed with skylights and large windows, which allow for natural lighting. In 1998 the school was renovated using the Energy Star process: Energy efficient lighting, Building tune-up, Updated HVAC controls with modular high efficiency boilers and education of the operating staff. This has resulted in a reduction in energy costs from $0.90 per square foot to $0.60 per square foot. Illustrating the district's economical use of the limited funds it receives. This project was a conventional performance contracting with guaranteed savings. The existing building used very little energy and therefore was difficult to justify financially. The lighting solution replaced some incandescent lights but there was a lot of existing daylight and therefore not much usage. The existing roof leaked and had poor insulation. The boilers were old and oversized but good boilers. The new boilers were high efficiency modular boilers. The controls tied the whole project together and made the system efficient.
