Georgetown Elementary School
935 Mt. Orab Pike
Georgetown, OH 45121
Georgetown Elementary School in Georgetown, OH, serves 557 students in 93,000 square feet of educational space. Georgetown Elementary uses an energy-conscious building design, new software to power off computers when idle, and a Building Automation System (BAS).
After the building was completed in 2006, the Georgetown Exempted Village School District (GEVSD) partnered with ENERGY STAR and began tracking energy use in Portfolio Manger early the following year. In November 2007, the elementary school received a 75 in EPA's energy performance rating system and earned the ENERGY STAR. To date, the school's energy savings exceed $20,000.
To successfully implement its energy plan, GEVSD appointed a maintenance director to oversee the operations of the district's buildings. The maintenance director is responsible for monitoring each building's energy use through the BAS, training maintenance staff on energy conservation methods, purchasing ENERGY STAR qualified equipment when possible, and encouraging staff and students to turn off lights and equipment when not in use.

"The Georgetown Elementary School building operates at such high efficiency because we have made this a team effort. From the maintenance department to the building principal, to the teaching staff, everyone realizes that by lowering the dollars spent on utilities, we are able to divert those funds toward education resources. The tools provided to us as an ENERGY STAR partner are a significant part of this effort."
