MMWR Introduction

According to the article, Tobacco Use Among Adults—United States, 2005 released in the October 27, 2006, issue of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) journal, Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report (MMWR), the 8-year decline in U.S. adult smoking rates may have stalled. Between 2004 and 2005, there was no observed change in U.S. adult smoking rates. In 2005, 20.9 percent—45.1 million people—in the United States were current smokers, and 50.8 percent of ever smokers—46.5 million people—had successfully quit.
