National Network for Youth*

NNY champions the needs of runaway, homeless, and other societally disconnected youth through advocacy, innovation, and services.

NNY's Program in Action

NNY is funded to provide Capacity-Building Assistance for Preventing HIV Infections: Organizations that Serve Runaway and Homeless Youth.

  • Launching their new website with an HIV prevention webpage that includes interactive features and regular information updates. Some of the new features include resources, links to related agencies or services, and the capacity to host blogs and present Webinars.

  • Continuing their update and adaptation of the evidence-based program Street Smart, by soliciting and incorporating feedback from likely partners in the Washington, DC area. Pilot testing of the updated program is scheduled for February 2009.

  • Providing professional development opportunities for at least 90 NNY member organizations related to addressing the HIV prevention needs of RHY. This will be done through the NNY’s annual national conference, and by providing professional development opportunities when attending the national conferences of other collaborative NGOs.

  • Marketing and disseminating a toolkit specifically designed to assist state and local education agencies in addressing the needs of RHY. Training and ongoing technical assistance on the use of the toolkit will take place at professional meetings and conferences, the DASH Funded Partners Meeting, and through the NNY’s Web site.
