Girls Inc. provides educational programs to millions of American girls, particularly those in high-risk, underserved areas; the organization is dedicated to inspiring all girls to be strong, smart, and bold.

Girls Inc.'s Program in Action

Girls Inc. is funded to provide Capacity-Building Assistance for Preventing HIV Infections: Organizations that Serve African American and Latina Females.

  • Training a minimum of 12 affiliates on implementing the Girls Inc. Preventing Adolescent Pregnancy program.
     
  • Training a minimum of 12 affiliates on implementing Friendly PEERsuasion, a national program developed by Girls Inc. on substance abuse prevention for girls.
     
  • Providing mini-grants to assist their affiliates in building and strengthening their programs and/or efforts to prevent HIV infection and other STDs.
     
  • Developing and disseminating resources and tools, including 1) resource lists and fact sheets focused on African American and Latina girls and HIV, 2) a guide for working with teen girls to foster leadership and encourage community action for preventing HIV, and 3) tools to assist affiliates in conducting evaluation of their HIV prevention activities.
     
  • Offering capacity building opportunities for affiliate organizations to create and strengthen partnerships within their communities to help prevent HIV among girls and young women.
