From March 2003–February 2008, the Pennsylvania Department of Education received funding from CDC’s Division of Adolescent and School Health to provide HIV prevention education.

Past Program Activities

Provided HIV Prevention Education

  • Provided professional development for health educators, administrators, personnel from institutions of higher education, and community partners on statewide policies, Pennsylvania Academic Standards, skills-based education and assessment, cultural competency, and best practices as related to HIV prevention.
     
  • Provided technical assistance on the statewide HIV prevention policy and the Pennsylvania Academic Standards relating to HIV prevention education, comprehensive school health education, and coordinated school health to administrators, educators, parents, and other key stakeholders.
     
  • Distributed mini-grants to schools to improve the quality of local district HIV/STD prevention education programs.
