Healthy KidsWyoming receives funding from CDC’s Division of Adolescent and School Health to provide HIV prevention education and conduct the Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS). The goal of Wyoming’s HIV prevention education program is to reduce health-related barriers to student academic and personal success.

Wyoming's Program In Action

Providing HIV Prevention Education

  • Collaborating with other agencies working to prevent HIV infection among school-age youth to identify gaps in programming, reduce duplicative efforts, and develop a strategic plan.

  • Conducting trainings for school staff on strategies for providing safe, supportive environments for sexual minority youth.

  • Collaborating with statewide partners and cadre members to provide HIV prevention training to staff serving youth in juvenile detention facilities.

Conducting the Youth Risk Behavior Survey

  • Administering the YRBS to collect health risk behavior data that are representative of Wyoming students in grades 9−12.

  • Creating a report and CD-ROM to communicate the YRBS results.

  • Disseminating the YRBS executive summary, CD-ROM, and results report to stakeholders through the Wyoming Department of Education Web site.
