Healthy KidsThe Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI) Public School System receives funding from CDC’s Division of Adolescent and School Health to provide HIV prevention education and conduct the Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS). This funding enables CNMI to address the HIV prevention needs of the Islands’ youth.

CNMI's Program In Action

Providing HIV Prevention Education

  • Providing professional development opportunities and technical assistance for schools on HIV prevention education content and strategies.

  • Providing ongoing professional development and resources relative to the evidence-based program Reducing the Risk for secondary classroom teachers new to the CNMI public schools.

  • Providing materials and training relative to cultural competency and skill building to address the needs of youth at highest risk for HIV infection.

Conducting the Youth Risk Behavior Survey

  • Administering the YRBS to collect health risk behavior data that are representative of CNMI students in grades 9−12.

  • Disseminating the results of the YRBS to key stakeholders throughout the islands for the purposes of programmatic decision making, planning, and development.
