Healthy KidsThe Kansas HIV Prevention Education Program maintains a collaborative relationship with the state and local health departments, local school districts, colleges and universities, community-based organizations, and other partners to ensure that effective HIV/AIDS prevention education is provided to Kansas’ youth. Kansas receives funding from CDC’s Division of Adolescent and School Health to provide HIV prevention education, and conduct the Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS).

Kansas' Program In Action

Providing HIV Prevention Education

  • Coordinating a HIV/AIDS/STD and Human Sexuality annual conference in collaboration with HIV prevention education programs in neighboring states to enhance regional professional development opportunities.

  • Providing training for staff working with students in juvenile justice facilities and Native American students on strengthening and expanding HIV prevention education programs that are specific to the needs of their students.

  • Disseminating information on HIV/STD prevention and human sexuality education to teachers and school nurses in Kansas.

Conducting the Youth Risk Behavior Survey

  • Educating and training school districts on the importance of the YRBS survey and the data it provides.

  • Distributing YRBS booklets and providing conference presentations on the statewide results of the YRBS to all Kansas school districts.

  • Collaborating with the Kansas Tobacco Prevention Program to jointly administer the YRBS and Youth Tobacco Survey.
