Healthy KidsThe Nez Perce Tribal Government receives funding from CDC’s Division of Adolescent and School Health to plan and implement coordinated school health programs in local schools. The Nez Perce Coordinated School Health Program (CSHP), called the Students for Success Program, is a collaborative effort between the Nez Perce Education Department, Nimiipuu Health, and four local school districts to support the development of Coordinated School Health Programs in four K-12 schools on the Nez Perce reservation. The Students for Success Program works to improve the health of children through planning and coordination of programs across and within agencies.

Nez Perce's Program In Action

Promoting Coordinated School Health with an Emphasis on Physical Activity, Nutrition, and Tobacco Use Prevention (PANT)

  • Creating a district-level School Health Council (SHC) and three School Health Teams (elementary, middle and high school) in each school district to oversee planning efforts regarding implementation of CSHPs.

  • Developing CSHP-PANT workplans at four schools using data from the School Health Index (SHI) to determine the focus of the workplan.

  • Providing professional development to school staff and School Health Council members on model program implementation, policy development, evaluation, program monitoring, and information dissemination.

  • Working with four K-12 school districts to coordinate School Health Council activities and CSHP/PANT activities.
