Healthy KidThe Illinois State Board of Education receives funding from CDC’s Division of Adolescent and School Health to provide HIV prevention education and conduct the Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS). The goal of the Illinois HIV/AIDS Prevention Program is to prevent HIV/AIDS by providing information and resources to students, parents, and employees.

Illinois' Program In Action

Providing HIV Prevention Education

  • Disseminating information electronically to all local school districts on exemplary research-based HIV prevention programs and/or effective designs for teacher training.

  • Providing training opportunities for middle and high school teachers and staff on using exemplary, research-based HIV prevention education programs.

  • Providing follow-up support and technical assistance for training participants to increase successful implementation of HIV prevention education programs.

Conducting the Youth Risk Behavior Survey

  • Administering the YRBS to collect health risk behavior data that is representative of Illinois students in grades 9-12.

  • Publishing the Illinois YRBS results online and distributing the results to all Illinois public school districts, Regional Offices of Education/Intermediate Service Centers, state agencies, and local health departments.
