    Cruise Ship's Corrective Action Statement

Item No.: 06
Site: Potable Water-Distribution Halogenation
Violation: The back-up pump was removed for maintenance.
Recommendation: Ensure that at least one backup halogen pump is available with automatic switchover to maintain the free residual halogen in the event that the primary pump fails, an increase in demand occurs, or the low chlorine alarm sounds.
Item No.: 08
Site: Potable Water-
Violation: There were no records indicating the pressure differential measured during the testing of the reduced pressure backflow preventers on the international fire connections.
Recommendation: Ensure that backflow prevention devices requiring testing, (e.g., reduced pressure backflow preventers), are inspected and tested with a test kit at least annually and that the test results showing the pressure differences on both sides of the valves are maintained for each device.
Item No.: 08
Site: Potable Water-Starboard Bunker Station
Violation: The air gap for the filling of boiler water from the potable water system was not two times the pipe diameter of the filling line.
Recommendation: Ensure that air gaps are at least twice the diameter of the delivery fixture opening and a minimum of 3 cm (1 inch).
Item No.: 08
Site: Potable Water-Bunkering
Violation: On the 12th of December, the chart recorder for the bunker halogenation was not operating. Manual tests were taken, but the testing was not hourly.
Recommendation: Ensure that free residual halogen monitoring is performed at least hourly during the bunkering of potable water.
Item No.: 08
Site: Potable Water-Crew Mess Beverage Station
Violation: There was a non-continuous pressure backflow prevention device installed on the potable water line to the juice and coffee machines.
Recommendation: Ensure that a continuous pressure-type backflow preventer is installed when a valve is located downstream from the backflow preventer.
Item No.: 08
Site: Potable Water-Topsider Galley
Violation: There was a non-continuous pressure backflow prevention device installed on the overhead spray hose at the pre-wash station. The spring on the hose was not strong enough to keep the spray hose above the flood rim of the basin below.
Recommendation: Ensure that a continuous pressure-type backflow preventer is installed when a valve is located downstream from the backflow preventer.
Item No.: 33
Site: Galley-Decks
Violation: There were rough surfaces on the painted deck areas of the galley.
Recommendation: Ensure that decks, bulkheads, and deckheads in food preparation, warewashing, pantries, and storage areas are constructed and maintained for easy cleaning.
