    Cruise Ship's Corrective Action Statement

Site: *General Comment-
Violation: There were six days in November 2008 when the free chlorine residual for the distribution system dropped below 0.2 ppm for less than 15 minutes to up to an hour. This occured around the same time period each day, from 2 a.m.-6 a.m. There was no explanation for this on the charts.
Recommendation: Ensure that halogen analyzer-chart recorder charts are changed, initialed, and dated daily and contain notations of any unusual water events in the potable water system.

Violation: The backflow prevention for the laundry fill line from the production system could not be located. The mineralizer backwash line backflow prevention could not be located.
Recommendation: Ensure that backflow preventers are installed when air gaps are impractical or when water under pressure is required.

Violation: The recirculation lines in the pool and whirlpool pump rooms were striped blue with white arrows. The potable water lines had this same designation.
Recommendation: Remove the blue striping from the recirculation lines or add a secondary color to differentiate these lines from potable water lines.

Violation: The drain lines on the vents for the backflow prevention devices near the sink were not directed to the waste water system through an air gap.
Recommendation: Provide an air gap at the end of the vent drain lines.

Violation: The backflow prevention device for the soda dispenser was leaking.
Recommendation: Replace the leaking backflow prevention device.

Violation: There was no standard warning sign for this whirlpool. This was repeated from the last inspection.
Recommendation: Ensure that a sign is installed near the whirlpool spas that lists standard safety precautions and risks, warning against use by particularly susceptible people, such as those who are immunocompromised.

Violation: The letter indicating that large blue metal drain covers in the larger whirlpools were anti-entrapment due to their size did not indicate the drain cover satisfied the requirements of AMSE/ANSI A112.19.8M or an equivalent standard for rate of flow.
Recommendation: Ensure that anti-entrapment drain covers or other drains that prevent entrapment hazards as specified in U.S. Consumer Product Safety Publication 363-009801 (dual drains/channel drains) are provided on swimming pools and whirlpool spas. Ensure that drain covers have either the plumbing/engineering approving organization stamp and flow rate affixed to the cover, or that a letter is maintained aboard the vessel certifying that the cover meets the safety requirements outlined in AMSE/ANSI A112.19.8M or an equivalent standard.

Violation: There was no documention for the large silver metal drain cover in the Roman Spa.

Violation: It was not clear that the Triodyne documentation was for the small grey drain covers in the smaller whirlpools

Site: Buffet-Time As A Public Health Control Plan
Violation: The time as a public health control plan stated the service and back-up undercounter of buffet lines were on time control. Per staff, the undercounter refrigerators were on temperature control. Also there were no set-up or discard times on the plan.
Recommendation: Include the set-up times on the time plan. Correct the inconsistencies with regards to undercounter refrigeration units in the time plan.

Violation: The plastic coating on the handle of the starboard combination oven was peeling, making cleaning difficult. This was corrected.
Recommendation: Ensure that nonfood-contact surfaces are free of unnecessary ledges, projections, and crevices, and designed and constructed to allow easy cleaning and to facilitate maintenance.

Violation: A fastener was missing from the top of one of the warming lamps at the carving station.
Recommendation: Replace the missing fastener.

Violation: The technical compartment adjacent to the combination oven had a peeling covering with an adhesive backing, making cleaning difficult. This was corrected.
Recommendation: Ensure that nonfood-contact surfaces are free of unnecessary ledges, projections, and crevices, and designed and constructed to allow easy cleaning and to facilitate maintenance.

Violation: One of 10 upper final rinse spray nozzles on the in-use conveyor dishwasher was clogged. The final rinse temperature was measured at 164.8 F at the plate surface. This was corrected.
Recommendation: Ensure the dishwasher is fully operational when in use.
