    Cruise Ship's Corrective Action Statement

Item No.: 03
Site: Preparation Room-
Violation: There were a few days when the free halogen residual during production was less than 2.0 ppm for several hours.
Recommendation: Ensure that potable water is continuously halogenated to at least 2.0 mg/L (ppm) free residual halogen at the time of bunkering or production with an automatic halogenation device that is controlled by a flow meter.

Site: Potable Water-
Violation: The recirculation line for the starboard crew whirlpool was striped blue. This was corrected. The potable water lines supplying the sink in the bosun store room were not striped blue.
Recommendation: Ensure that potable water piping and fittings are painted or stripped auxiliary blue, or in accordance with ISO 14726, at 5 m (15 feet) intervals on each side of partitions, decks, and bulkheads in all spaces, except where the decor would be marred by such markings.

Site: Potable Water-
Violation: Not all of the cross-connections to the potable water were listed in the comprehensive cross-connection control program. The hose connections at the bucket fill stations and the connections at the steam generators for the turkish baths were not listed.
Recommendation: Ensure that all of the cross-connections to the potable water system are addressed.

Violation: Backflow prevention devices were not provided on the potable water lines supplying the engine change room coffee machine and laundry machine.
Recommendation: Ensure that backflow preventers are installed when air gaps are impractical or when water under pressure is required.

Violation: There were no backflow prevention devices on the potable water lines for the two coffee machines.

Site: Whirlpool/Spa-
Violation: One or more drain covers were missing at the mid-port whirlpool, spa whirlpool and starboard crew whilrpool. The mid-port whirlpool was open.
Recommendation: Ensure that anti-entrapment drain covers or other drains that prevent entrapment hazards as specified in U.S. Consumer Product Safety Publication 363-009801 (dual drains/channel drains) are provided on swimming pools and whirlpool spas. Ensure that drain covers have either the plumbing/engineering approving organization stamp and flow rate affixed to the cover, or that a letter is maintained aboard the vessel certifying that the cover meets the safety requirements outlined in AMSE/ANSI A112.19.8M or an equivalent standard.

Site: Swimming Pool-Aft Pool
Violation: There was no safety sign at the pool.
Recommendation: Ensure that safety signs are provided for public swimming pools and whirlpool spas.

Site: Swimming Pool-Kid's Pool
Violation: There was no indication that the drain cover was anti-entrapment. There was no documentation for this drain cover.
Recommendation: Ensure that anti-entrapment drain covers or other drains that prevent entrapment hazards as specified in U.S. Consumer Product Safety Publication 363-009801 (dual drains/channel drains) are provided on swimming pools and whirlpool spas. Violation: There were a few free halogen charts or free halogen trend readouts that were missing for the whirlpool spas. For these dates there were no manual tests.
Recommendation: Ensure that halogen analyzer-chart recorder charts are initialed, dated, and changed daily.

Site: Preparation Room-Potato Peelers
Violation: The potato peelers had slotted fasteners inside the food contact area, making cleaning difficult. Also, the right peeler had a torn gasket around the potato exit chute, making cleaning difficult.
Recommendation: Replace slotted fasteners with non-slotted, low profile and corrosion resistant fasteners.

Site: Food Service General-Preparation Rooms, Main Galley, Bars, Pantries, and Lido Service Areas
Violation: Numerous handwash stations in these areas had a maximum water temperature of 80° F to 102° F.
Recommendation: Ensure that handwashing sinks are equipped to provide water at a temperature of at least 43°C (110°F) through a mixing valve or combination faucet. For handwash sinks with electronic sensors, where the user cannot make temperature adjustments, ensure that the temperature provided to the user does not exceed 52°C (125°F).

Site: Food Service General-Preparation Rooms, Main Galley, Bars, Pantries, and Lido Service Areas
Violation: Numerous handwash stations in these areas had a maximum water temperature of 80° F to 102° F.
Recommendation: Replace the torn gasket.

Site: Other-Forward Grill
Violation: A hole was noted in the bulkhead of the technical compartment of the starboard handwash station and in the bulkhead next to the port handwash station, making cleaning difficult.
Recommendation: Seal the holes.

Site: Galley-Crew and Lido
Violation: There were several areas throughout these galleys that had missing and recessed grout, especially around the scuppers and stainless steel/deck junctures, making cleaning difficult.
Recommendation: Ensure that decks, bulkheads, and deckheads in food preparation, warewashing, pantries, and storage areas are constructed and maintained for easy cleaning.

Site: Buffet-Lido Hot Lines
Violation: Sections of the protective guard were missing at the heat lamps.
Recommendation: Ensure that an infrared or other heat lamp is protected against breakage by a shield surrounding and extending beyond the bulb so that only the face of the bulb is exposed.

Site: Children Area-
Violation: The leggos were stored assembled and wet in two separate buckets. It did not appear that these toys were disassembled prior to cleaning and disinfection.
Recommendation: Ensure the leggos are disassembled prior to cleaning and disinfection.

Site: Housekeeping-Outbreak Prevention and Response Plan
Violation: The outbreak prevention and response plan stated that the common crew areas were cleaned and super sanitized in an outbreak situation. No time frame was given for how often this occurs. According to the Director of Services and the Housekeeping Manager, these areas were cleaned continuously.
Recommendation: Ensure that the plan details the frequency of disinfection.
