How do I request a Review of the Debt subject to Administrative Wage Garnishment?
  Question

How do I request a Review of the Debt subject to Administrative Wage Garnishment?

  Answer

You may request a review of your debt in writing, or by telephoning or visiting any Social Security office.  In order for SSA to review your debt there must be evidence in your record or you must furnish evidence to show that you do not owe the debt or do not owe it in the amount claimed by SSA or SSA is precluded from collecting it  (e.g., the debt is subject to a bankruptcy petition or discharge).  If you request this review within 60 days of the date of the pre-garnishment notice, SSA will not proceed with the AWG action until the review has been completed.
