2007 Critical Use Exemption Nominations from the Phaseout of Methyl Bromide
METHYL BROMIDE CRITICAL USE EXEMPTION
With this nomination for 2007, the U.S. is requesting 29 percent of baseline. This nomination covers exemptions for 15 crops or uses, including tomatoes, strawberries, peppers, cucurbits, orchard replants, and post-harvest uses. In addition, it should be noted that the United States submitted a supplemental request for a CUE in 2006, amounting to an additional .03 percent of the 1991 baseline levels. This 2007 request represents a substantial reduction, largely due to the introduction of alternatives into the marketplace.
After the Parties to the Protocol authorize critical uses, EPA annual promulgates a notice-and-comment rulemaking to exempt methyl bromide production and import for approved critical users.
