GOV. RITTER NOMINATES JAMES T. POLSFUT TO COLORADO COMMISSION ON HIGHER EDUCATION

Gov. Bill Ritter today announced the nomination of James T. Polsfut of Arvada to the Colorado Commission on Higher Education. Polsfut fills the vacancy created by the resignation of Carrie Besnette of Denver.

"It is vitally important that we work tirelessly to solve the complex higher education issues facing Colorado," Ritter said. "Jim Polsfut is a proven leader in the business world, and his creative nature will help improve our higher education system."

Polsfut, 47, is currently president of First Western Development Corp., a division of First Western Trust Bank. From 2001 to 2003, he was the chairman of Cordillera Asset Management, and from 1992 to 2000, Polsfut served as a general manager for GE Capital in Mexico City and the United States. He gained his undergraduate degree from Harvard in 1983 and his MBA from Stanford in 1989.

The Colorado Commission on Higher Education sets policies for all state-supported institutions of higher education.

There are 11 members of the commission and each serves a four-year term. Senate confirmation is required for the appointment and is expected the week of Feb. 19.
