2006 National Oral Health Conference
Education, Prevention and Access: A Bridge to Optimum Oral Health

The seventh joint annual meeting between the Association of State and
Territorial Dental Directors (ASTDD) and the American Association of
Public Health Dentistry (AAPHD) was held on May 1�in Little Rock,
Arkansas. The conference addressed issues and topics relevant to public
health practice as well as research and education. Former U.S. Surgeon
General Jocelyn Elders was the keynote speaker for the opening plenary
session. Other plenary and concurrent sessions focused on the dental
public health workforce, the public health implications of periodontal
disease; risk assessment for dental caries (tooth decay); community
water fluoridation; the science, policies and practices related to
perinatal and infant oral health; and best practices in access to dental
care for the underserved.
A supplement of the Journal of Public Health Dentistry contains
highlights of the 2006 conference and abstracts of the presentations.*

The meeting was cosponsored by CDC, the Health Resources and Services
Administration, ASTDD, and AAPHD.
