Rodeo and Chediski Fires in Arizona
The thick smoke being created by the Rodeo and Chediski Fires (red dots) in east central Arizona gives evidence of the enormity of the fire, which combined over the weekend of June 22 to produce a fire of more than 300,000 acres. This image was acquired by the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on the Terra satellite on June 22, 2002. Please note that the high-resolution scene provided here is 500 meters per pixel. For a copy of the scene at the sensor's fullest resolution or to see false-color images, visit the MODIS Rapid Response Image Gallery.
