This is the Top of the Page Icon Temperature / Dewpoint

1. At Springfield, IL, a new minimum temperature record was set on June 1, 2003. A low of 39°F was recorded marking the first time since records started in 1880 that temperatures have fallen below 40°F during the month of June. The previous June record low of 40°F was set on June 6, 1894.

2. At Jackson, KY, a new monthly temperature record was set for the coolest June on record in 2003. The average temperature was 68.2°F which is 3.2°F below normal. This breaks the previous record for the coolest June which had an average of 69.4°F that occured in June of 1997.

1. A new monthly maximum rainfall record was set for Central Park, NY on June 21, 2003. A total of 1.19 inches of rain fell bringing the monthly total to 9.90 inches. This breaks the previous record of 9.78 inches which occurred in June of 1903.

2. A new monthly maximum rainfall record was set at Wilmington, DE for June 2003. The monthly total of 9.90 inches of rain broke the previous monthly record of 8.37 inches which occurred in June of 1938.

3. A new monthly maximum rainfall record was set at St. Louis, MO for June 2003. The monthly total was 12.35 inches breaking the previous monthly record of 10.84 inches which was set in June of 1875.

4. New monthly minimum rainfall records were set for areas in Oregon and Washington for June 2003, they include the following:

  • at Meacham, OR, the monthly total was only 0.16 inch breaking the previous record low of 0.29 inch which occurred in June of 1962; the normal rainfall total for the month of June is 1.99 inches
  • at Pendelton, OR, the monthly total was only a trace of precipitation; this breaks the previous record low of 0.03 inch that occurred in 1986; the normal rainfall total for the month of June is 0.78 inch
  • at Walla Walla, WA, the monthly total was only 0.03 inch breaking the previous record low of 0.25 inch that fell in 1989; the normal rainfall total for the month of June is 1.15 inches
  • at Yakima, WA, the monthly total was only a trace of precipitation breaking the previous record of 0.01 inch that fell in 1970; the normal rainfall total for the month of June is 0.62 inch

5. A new monthly maximum rainfall record was set at Scranton/Wilkes-Barre airport in Avoca, PA for the month of June 2003. A total of 7.54 inches of rain fell breaking the previous record of 7.22 inches which occurred in 1972.

1. Manatee River at Myakka Head, in Tampa Bay, FL crested on June 21, 2003 at a stage of 20.85 feet. This broke the previous record of 18.08 feet which occurred on March 20, 1998 and November 14, 1997.

2. A new record for the largest hailstone to occur in Nebraska was set in Aurora, NE on June 22, 2003. A hailstone with a diameter of 7.0 inches and a circumference of 18.75 inches was reported. This is the largest hailstone ever recorded in the state of Nebraska, and very near the national record-breaking hailstone observed in Coffeyville, KS on September 3, 1970. The previous hailstone in Coffeyville measured 5.7 inches in diameter and 17.5 inches in circumference.
