GOV. RITTER ISSUES AUDIO STATEMENT ON SUNDAY SHOOTINGS

Gov. Bill Ritter issued the following audio statement today regarding the tragic Sunday shootings in Arvada and Colorado Springs. The audio is available by clicking on this link or opening the attached MP3 file.

The text of the statement is:

"Today, Colorado is mourning the tragic loss of those killed in yesterday's senseless shootings. Our deepest sympathies go out to the families of the victims, and we are praying for the speedy recovery of the people who suffered injuries during the two incidents.

"I know it's difficult to understand such irrational acts of violence. But it's important that at a time like this, that all Coloradans come together as a community to support one another and to comfort one another as we search for answers.

"As we gather with our families during the holiday season these next few weeks, I ask that all Coloradans keep the families that were directly touched by this tragedy in your hearts and prayers, and I ask that you hold your own families a little bit closer.

"As the investigation into what happened yesterday continues, I have directed the Colorado Department of Public Safety, Colorado State Patrol and the Colorado Bureau of Investigation to provide immediate assistance to the local and federal agencies investigating the shootings. The CBI will specifically be conducting forensics analysis as requested.

"Once again, my heart goes out to everyone who was touched by yesterday's incidents."
