GOV. RITTER NAMES TWO NEW JUDGES

Gov. Bill Ritter today announced two new judicial appointments: Deborah J. Grohs as a District Court judge in the 4th Judicial District and Suzanne Alderson Grant as a Crowley County Court judge.

Grohs, of Colorado Springs, will fill the vacancy left by the retirement of Judge Rebecca Bromley. The 4th Judicial District covers El Paso and Teller counties.

Grohs has been in private practice since 2004. Also since 2004 she has been a mediator for the Office of Dispute Resolution. From 2002 to 2004, Grohs was the office head for the regional Public Defender's Office, and from 1998 to 2002, she was a supervisor in the Colorado Springs Office of the Public Defender. She worked in the Cook County Public Defender's Office in Chicago from 1991 to 1997, and in the Lake County Public Defender's Office in Waukegan, Ill., from 1986 to 1991. She earned her bachelor's degree from Western Michigan University in 1982 and her law degree from Chicago-Kent College of Law in 1985.

The initial term of office is a provisional term of approximately two years, and then until the second Tuesday in January following the next general election.

The Governor also has appointed Suzanne Alderson Grant of Ordway as a Crowley County Court judge. Grant will fill the vacancy left by the retirement of Judge Michael B. McDonnell.

Grant is a community health specialist at the Otero County Health Department. She received her bachelor's degree from the University of Wyoming in 1976.
