ODEP and SHRM Partner on Inclusive Mentoring Event
On February 11, 2008, ten students, including students with disabilities, from two local high schools will participate in a day long Job Search Mentoring Event at the Society for Human Resource Management Headquarters in Alexandria, Virginia. Students will ‘shadow’ SHRM employees to gain insight into various career paths, learn about communication in the workplace, and polish up their resumes.
SHRM and ODEP partnered on this activity to demonstrate that inclusive job shadowing activities can be beneficial to employers and all students, including those with disabilities. While both organizations have participated in the annual October Disability Mentoring Day for a number of years, the participants in this event mirror diversity in the workplace.
