GOV. RITTER'S OFFICE STATEMENT ON DA'S LETTER

Gov. Bill Ritter's office released the following statement today in response to Denver District Attorney Mitch Morrissey's letter that Colorado State Patrol Agent Jay Hemphill's actions of July 16 were "reasonable, necessary and legally justified."

"This was a terrible event for everyone involved," Gov. Ritter's spokesman Evan Dreyer said. "However, the investigative report confirms that Agent Hemphill was legally justified in taking the actions that he did, as tragic as they were.

"The District Attorney's report does give us some closure and allows the Governor to continue making sure those who were impacted are getting the support they need. Gov. Ritter also will continue working with legislative leadership to make sure visitors and employees are safe at the state Capitol."
