  • This Guide, with 250,000 hard copies distributed statewide, is now available online for your reference if you, a family member, friend or co-worker is in need of substance abuse treatment, counseling or support groups, along with information regarding drug prevention programs.


Leadership to Keep Children Alcohol Free

  • The Governors’ spouses initiative, Leadership to Keep Children Alcohol Free, was established to make childhood drinking prevention a national health priority. A unique coalition of Governors’ spouses, Federal agencies, and public and private organizations, the Leadership is the only national effort that specifically targets prevention of drinking in the 9- to 15-year-old age group.  Lt. Governor James R. “Duke” Aiona, Jr. is co-chair of this national organization.

 
National Alcohol and Drug Addiction Recovery Month

  • The Recovery Month effort aims to promote the societal benefits of alcohol and drug use disorder treatment, laud the contributions of treatment providers and promote the message that recovery from alcohol and drug use disorders in all its forms is possible.  Each September, Hawaii joins the rest of the nation to celebrate Recovery Month with numerous activities and events throughout the state.


County of Hawai'i

  • The Healing Our Island website is a Hawaii County resource to promote a drug free, healthy community. This site promotes community based programs and grassroots efforts toward education, prevention, treatment and recovery for youth and at-risk adults.

Center for Substance Abuse Research (CESAR) – University of Maryland at College Park

  • CESAR is dedicated to addressing the problems substance abuse creates for individuals, families, and communities. To this end, the mission of CESAR is to inform policymakers, practitioners, and the general public about substance abuse—its nature and extent, its prevention and treatment, and its relation to other problems.


Center on Alcohol Marketing and Youth (CAMY)

  • The Center on Alcohol Marketing and Youth at Georgetown University monitors the marketing practices of the alcohol industry to focus attention and action on industry practices that jeopardize the health and safety of America's youth.


National Institiute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA)

 

  • NIAAA provides leadership in the national effort to reduce alcohol-related problems by: 1) Conducting and supporting research in a wide range of scientific areas including genetics, neuroscience, epidemiology, health risks and benefits of alcohol consumption, prevention, and treatment; 2) Coordinating and collaborating with other research institutes and Federal Programs on alcohol-related issues; 3) Collaborating with international, national, state, and local institutions, organizations, agencies, and programs engaged in alcohol-related work; and 4) Translating and disseminating research findings to health care providers, researchers, policymakers, and the public.

  • The Science Behind Drug Abuse, the NIDA for Teens Web site is brought to you by the scientiests at the National Insitute on Drug Abuse.
