UNEMPLOYMENT INSURANCE WEEKLY CLAIMS REPORT SEASONALLY ADJUSTED DATA In the week ending Nov. 17, the advance figure for seasonally adjusted initial claims was 330,000, a decrease of 11,000 from the previous week's revised figure of 341,000. The 4-week moving average was 329,750, a decrease of 750 from the previous week's revised average of 330,500. The advance seasonally adjusted insured unemployment rate was 1.9 percent for the week ending Nov. 10, unchanged from the prior week's unrevised rate of 1.9 percent. The advance number for seasonally adjusted insured unemployment during the week ending Nov. 10 was 2,566,000, an increase of 7,000 from the preceding week's revised level of 2,559,000. The 4-week moving average was 2,570,750, an increase of 10,750 from the preceding week's revised average of 2,560,000. UNADJUSTED DATA The advance number of actual initial claims under state programs, unadjusted, totaled 325,024 in the week ending Nov. 17, a decrease of 30,304 from the previous week. There were 367,690 initial claims in the comparable week in 2006. The advance unadjusted insured unemployment rate was 1.7 percent during the week ending Nov. 10, unchanged from the prior week. The advance unadjusted number for persons claiming UI benefits in state programs totaled 2,301,535, an increase of 13,975 from the preceding week. A year earlier, the rate was 1.7 percent and the volume was 2,269,427. Extended benefits were not available in any state during the week ending Nov. 3. Initial claims for UI benefits by former Federal civilian employees totaled 1,707 in the week ending Nov. 10, an increase of 239 from the prior week. There were 1,824 initial claims by newly discharged veterans, an increase of 126 from the preceding week. There were 14,176 former Federal civilian employees claiming UI benefits for the week ending Nov. 3, a decrease of 1,358 from the previous week. Newly discharged veterans claiming benefits totaled 23,317, a decrease of 35 from the prior week. The highest insured unemployment rates in the week ending Nov. 3 were in Alaska (3.3 percent), Puerto Rico (3.0), Michigan (2.6), Pennsylvania (2.6), Arkansas (2.5), California (2.5), New Jersey (2.5), Oregon (2.4), Rhode Island (2.3), Massachusetts (2.1), and South Carolina (2.1). The largest increases in initial claims for the week ending Nov. 10 were in Michigan (+6,895), California (+5,696), Puerto Rico (+3,745), New Jersey (+2,726), and New York (+2,394), while the largest decreases were in Iowa (-2,397), Ohio (-1,558), North Carolina (-870), South Carolina (-809), and Georgia (-482).
