UNEMPLOYMENT INSURANCE WEEKLY CLAIMS REPORT SEASONALLY ADJUSTED DATA The advance seasonally adjusted insured unemployment rate was 1.9 percent for the week ending Feb. 10, unchanged from the prior week's revised rate of 1.9 percent. The advance number for seasonally adjusted insured unemployment during the week ending Feb. 10 was 2,509,000, a decrease of 45,000 from the preceding week's revised level of 2,554,000. The 4-week moving average was 2,524,000, an increase of 6,750 from the preceding week's revised average of 2,517,250.
The advance number of actual initial claims under state programs, unadjusted, totaled 306,719 in the week ending Feb. 17, a decrease of 56,281 from the previous week. There were 269,571 initial claims in the comparable week in 2006. The advance unadjusted insured unemployment rate was 2.3 percent during the
week ending Feb. 10, unchanged from the prior week.
The advance unadjusted number for persons claiming UI benefits in state programs
totaled 2,998,199, a decrease of 81,410 from the preceding week. A year earlier,
the rate was 2.3 percent and the volume was 3,017,838. Extended benefits were not available in any state during the week ending Feb. 3. Initial claims for UI benefits by former Federal civilian employees totaled 1,244 in the week ending Feb. 10, an increase of 68 from the prior week. There were 1,814 initial claims by newly discharged veterans, an increase of 22 from the preceding week. There were 20,666 former Federal civilian employees claiming UI benefits for the week ending Feb. 3, an increase of 3,110 from the previous week. Newly discharged veterans claiming benefits totaled 25,337, an increase of 129 from the prior week. The highest insured unemployment rates in the week ending Feb. 3 were in Alaska (5.6 percent), Michigan (4.7), Puerto Rico (4.0), Pennsylvania (3.9), Wisconsin (3.8), Rhode Island (3.6), New Jersey (3.4), Massachusetts (3.3), Montana (3.3), Arkansas (3.1), Idaho (3.1), Minnesota (3.1), and Vermont (3.1). The largest increases in initial claims for the week ending Feb. 10 were in Pennsylvania (+7,657), Ohio (+5,282), Wisconsin (+4,926), North Carolina (+2,518), and South Carolina (+2,334), while the largest decreases were in California (-1,070), Kansas (-664), Virginia (-502), Texas (-497), and Kentucky UNEMPLOYMENT INSURANCE DATA FOR REGULAR STATE PROGRAMS
