UNEMPLOYMENT INSURANCE WEEKLY CLAIMS REPORT SEASONALLY ADJUSTED DATA The advance seasonally adjusted insured unemployment rate was 1.9 percent for the week ending Jan. 27, unchanged from the prior week's unrevised rate of 1.9 percent. The advance number for seasonally adjusted insured unemployment during the week ending Jan. 27 was 2,490,000, a decrease of 54,000 from the preceding week's revised level of 2,544,000. The 4-week moving average was 2,500,500, an increase of 20,000 from the preceding week's revised average of 2,480,500.
The advance number of actual initial claims under state programs, unadjusted, totaled 337,323 in the week ending Feb. 3, a decrease of 22,744 from the previous week. There were 321,527 initial claims in the comparable week in 2006. The advance unadjusted insured unemployment rate was 2.3 percent during the
week ending Jan. 27, a decrease of 0.1 percentage point from the prior week.
The advance unadjusted number for persons claiming UI benefits in state programs
totaled 2,983,238, a decrease of 120,243 from the preceding week. A year earlier,
the rate was 2.4 percent and the volume was 3,074,962. Extended benefits were not available in any state during the week ending Jan. 20. Initial claims for UI benefits by former Federal civilian employees totaled 1,536 in the week ending Jan. 27, an increase of 120 from the prior week. There were 1,929 initial claims by newly discharged veterans, an increase of 150 from the preceding week. There were 21,373 former Federal civilian employees claiming UI benefits for the week ending Jan. 20, an increase of 3,828 from the previous week. Newly discharged veterans claiming benefits totaled 26,003, an increase of 498 from the prior week. The highest insured unemployment rates in the week ending Jan. 20 were in Alaska (5.8 percent), Michigan (5.2), Pennsylvania (3.8), Wisconsin (3.8), Puerto Rico (3.7), Rhode Island (3.5), Massachusetts (3.3), Montana (3.3), New Jersey (3.3), and Oregon (3.3). The largest increases in initial claims for the week ending Jan. 27 were in California (+5,514), Texas (+3,022), New Jersey (+1,451), Florida (+1,048), and Georgia (+1,034), while the largest decreases were in Michigan (-6,822), Kentucky (-3,288), Washington (-2,009), Alabama (-1,615), and Kansas UNEMPLOYMENT INSURANCE DATA FOR REGULAR STATE PROGRAMS
