UNEMPLOYMENT INSURANCE WEEKLY CLAIMS REPORT
SEASONALLY ADJUSTED DATA
In the week ending Nov. 26, the advance figure for seasonally adjusted initial
claims was 320,000, a decrease of 17,000 from the previous week's revised
figure of 337,000. The 4-week moving average was 322,500, a decrease of 1,250
from the previous week's revised average of 323,750.
The advance seasonally adjusted insured unemployment rate was 2.2 percent
for the week ending Nov. 19, unchanged from the prior week's unrevised rate
of 2.2 percent.
The advance number for seasonally adjusted insured unemployment during
the week ending Nov. 19 was 2,767,000, a decrease of 24,000 from the preceding
week's revised level of 2,791,000. The 4-week moving average was 2,778,250,
a decrease of 7,000 from the preceding week's revised average of 2,785,250.
UNADJUSTED DATA
The advance number of actual initial claims under state programs, unadjusted,
totaled 289,629 in the week ending Nov. 26, a decrease of 78,976 from the previous
week. There were 320,690 initial claims in the comparable week in 2004.
The advance unadjusted insured unemployment rate was 1.8 percent during the
week ending Nov. 19, a decrease of 0.2 percentage point from the prior week.
The advance unadjusted number for persons claiming UI benefits in state programs
totaled 2,324,262, a decrease of 235,164 from the preceding week. A year earlier,
the rate was 1.8 percent and the volume was 2,331,862.
Extended benefits were available in Louisiana during the week ending Nov. 12. Initial claims for UI benefits by former Federal civilian employees totaled 2,448 in the week ending Nov. 19, an increase of 645 from the prior week. There were 2,317 initial claims by newly discharged veterans, an increase of 594 from the preceding week.
There were 19,207 former Federal civilian employees claiming UI benefits for the week ending Nov. 12, an increase of 2,926 from the previous week. Newly discharged veterans claiming benefits totaled 28,546, an increase of 2,166 from the prior week.
The highest insured unemployment rates in the week ending Nov. 12 were in Louisiana (11.5 percent), Alaska (4.8), Mississippi (4.6), Puerto Rico (4.0), Michigan (3.0), Oregon (2.7), New Jersey (2.6), Pennsylvania (2.6), Arkansas (2.4), and California (2.2).
The largest increases in initial claims for the week ending Nov. 19 were in California (+8,627), Florida (+7,177), Illinois (+6,560), Pennsylvania (+5,841), and New York (+4,889), while the largest decreases were in Kentucky (-895), Maine (-51), and the Virgin Islands (-9).
