UNEMPLOYMENT INSURANCE WEEKLY CLAIMS REPORT SEASONALLY ADJUSTED DATA The advance seasonally adjusted insured unemployment rate was 2.2 percent for the week ending Nov. 12, unchanged from the prior week's unrevised rate of 2.2 percent. The advance number for seasonally adjusted insured unemployment during the week ending Nov. 12 was 2,824,000, an increase of 59,000 from the preceding week's revised level of 2,765,000. The 4-week moving average was 2,793,500, a decrease of 10,750 from the preceding week's revised average of 2,804,250.
The advance number of actual initial claims under state programs, unadjusted, totaled 366,811 in the week ending Nov. 19, an increase of 83,426 from the previous week. There were 355,954 initial claims in the comparable week in 2004. The advance unadjusted insured unemployment rate was 2.0 percent during the
week ending Nov. 12, an increase of 0.2 percentage point from the prior week. The advance unadjusted number
for persons claiming UI benefits in state programs totaled 2,589,928, an increase
of 225,735 from the preceding week. A year earlier, the rate was 2.0 percent
and the volume was 2,528,643. Extended benefits were available in Louisiana during the week ending Nov. 5. Initial claims for UI benefits by former Federal civilian employees totaled 1,802 in the week ending Nov. 12, a decrease of 240 from the prior week. There were 1,718 initial claims by newly discharged veterans, a decrease of 272 from the preceding week. There were 16,280 former Federal civilian employees claiming UI benefits for the week ending Nov. 5, a decrease of 1,108 from the previous week. Newly discharged veterans claiming benefits totaled 26,381, a decrease of 1,870 from the prior week. The highest insured unemployment rates in the week ending Nov. 5 were in Louisiana (10.9 percent), Mississippi (4.4), Puerto Rico (4.0), Alaska (3.9), Michigan (2.5), Oregon (2.5), Pennsylvania (2.5), New Jersey (2.4), Arkansas (2.3), and Washington (2.1). The largest increases in initial claims for the week ending Nov. 12 were in Florida (+6,033), Georgia (+688), Tennessee (+62), West Virginia (+51), and the Virgin Islands (+2), while the largest decreases were in Louisiana (-17,624), California (-3,781), Pennsylvania (-3,293), Illinois (-3,209), and New York (-3,000).
