UNEMPLOYMENT INSURANCE WEEKLY CLAIMS REPORT SEASONALLY ADJUSTED DATA The advance seasonally adjusted insured unemployment rate was 2.0 percent for the week ending June 11, a decrease of 0.1 percentage point from the prior week's unrevised rate of 2.1 percent. The advance number for seasonally adjusted insured unemployment during the week ending June 11 was 2,600,000, a decrease of 38,000 from the preceding week's revised level of 2,638,000. The 4-week moving average was 2,603,000, an increase of 7,500 from the preceding week's revised average of 2,595,500.
The advance number of actual initial claims under state programs, unadjusted, totaled 287,920 in the week ending June 18, a decrease of 27,846 from the previous week. There were 322,481 initial claims in the comparable week in 2004. The advance unadjusted insured unemployment rate was 1.9 percent during the
week ending June 11, unchanged from the prior week.
The advance unadjusted number for persons claiming UI benefits in state programs
totaled 2,399,505, a decrease of 32,861 from the preceding week. A year earlier,
the rate was 2.2 percent and the volume was 2,733,297. Extended benefits were available in Alaska during the week ending June 4. Initial claims for UI benefits by former Federal civilian employees totaled 1,414 in the week ending June 11, an increase of 83 from the prior week. There were 2,234 initial claims by newly discharged veterans, an increase of 147 from the preceding week. There were 12,783 former Federal civilian employees claiming UI benefits for the week ending June 4, an increase of 560 from the previous week. Newly discharged veterans claiming benefits totaled 26,737, an increase of 1,256 from the prior week. The highest insured unemployment rates in the week ending June 4 were in Puerto Rico (4.6 percent), Alaska (3.8), Michigan (3.0), Oregon (2.8), Pennsylvania (2.8), New Jersey (2.6), Arkansas (2.5), Massachusetts (2.4), South Carolina (2.4), California (2.3), and Connecticut (2.3). The largest increases in initial claims for the week ending June 11 were in North Carolina (+6,994), California (+4,587), Pennsylvania (+4,482), Georgia (+3,591), and Oklahoma (+2,493), while the largest decreases were in Texas (-3,885), Indiana (-1,681), Louisiana (-994), Tennessee (-692), and New Hampshire (-631).
