UNEMPLOYMENT INSURANCE WEEKLY CLAIMS REPORT

SEASONALLY ADJUSTED DATA

In the week ending Nov. 10, the advance figure for seasonally adjusted initial claims was 444,000, a decrease of  8,000 from the previous week's revised figure of 452,000. The 4-week moving average was 474,750, a decrease of  13,000 from the previous week's revised average of 487,750.

The advance seasonally adjusted insured unemployment rate was 3.0 percent for the week ending Nov. 3, an increase of 0.1 percentage point  from the prior week's unrevised rate of 2.9 percent.

The advance number for seasonally adjusted insured unemployment during the week ending Nov. 3 was 3,826,000, an increase of 126,000 from the preceding week's revised level of 3,700,000. The 4-week moving average was 3,712,500, an increase of 56,500 from the preceding week's revised average of 3,656,000.
 

UNADJUSTED DATA

The advance number of actual initial claims under state programs, unadjusted, totaled 457,716 in the week ending Nov. 10, an increase of  13,900 from the previous week. There were 294,753 initial claims in the comparable week in 2000.

The advance unadjusted insured unemployment rate was 2.5 percent during the week ending Nov. 3, an increase of 0.1 percentage point  from the prior week. The advance unadjusted number for persons claiming UI benefits in state programs totaled 3,206,569, an increase of  117,045 from the preceding week. A year earlier, the rate was 1.4 percent and the volume was 1,760,501.

Extended benefits were not available in any state during the week ending Oct. 27.

Initial claims for UI benefits by former Federal civilian employees totaled 1,492 in the week ending Nov. 3, an increase of 35 from the prior week. There were 1,211 initial claims by newly discharged veterans, a decrease of 30 from the preceding week.

There were 16,001 former Federal civilian employees claiming UI benefits for the week ending Oct. 27, a decrease of 1,662 from the previous week. Newly discharged veterans claiming benefits totaled 15,732, an increase of 298 from the prior week.

The highest insured unemployment rates in the week ending Oct. 27 were in Puerto Rico (5.7 percent), Alaska (4.2), Oregon (4.0), Washington (3.6), Nevada (3.5), California (3.2), Hawaii(3.2), Pennsylvania (3.1), Arkansas (3.0), and Massachusetts (3.0).

The largest increases in initial claims for the week ending Nov. 3 were in California (+3,950), Pennsylvania (+3,626), South Carolina (+2,606), North Carolina (+2,559), and Massachusetts (+2,303), while the largest decreases were in Michigan (-4,712), Georgia (-2,736), Illinois (-2,689), Oklahoma (-1,991), and Virginia (-1,811).
