Statement by U.S. Secretary of Labor Elaine L. Chao regarding House passage of H.R. 3920 – The Trade and Globalization Assistance Act of 2007

WASHINGTON — Following the vote today in the U.S. House of Representatives on H.R. 3920, legislation on the Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA) program submitted by Rep. Charles Rangel, U.S. Secretary of Labor Elaine L. Chao made the following statement:

"This Administration supports Trade Adjustment Assistance, but the bill passed today, instead of focusing on getting workers jobs and training as quickly as possible, builds a bigger bureaucracy that will make it harder for unemployed workers to access relevant training and reconnect with the job market."
