ETA News Release: [03/10/2003] Labor Grant Will Aid Dislocated Massachusetts WorkersU.S. Secretary of Labor Elaine L. Chao Announces National Emergency Grant of Over $252,000 to Supplement Re-employment Programs WASHINGTONU.S. Secretary of Labor Elaine L. Chao announced a National Emergency Grant of over $252,000 that will aid 115 Massachusetts workers dislocated as a result of the closure of Federal Mogul Corporation in Brighton. National Emergency Grants are part of the secretarys discretionary fund. A grant is awarded after a state submits a request and the grant guidelines have been met. The President and I are committed to getting Massachusetts displaced workers the job and skills training they need to find re-employment, Chao said. I hope these funds will be deployed right away to get these Mogul Corporation workers back to work in good jobs. The grant project delivers critical help to unemployed Massachusetts citizens, underscoring one of the main goals of the Presidents economic agenda. Operated by the Massachusetts Department of Labor and Workforce Development, the grant will supplement existing re-employment programs including: job search assistance, job development, job placement, basic skills training and counseling. In addition, workers will be able to access English as a second language assistance. Helping American workers who have lost their jobs remains a top priority for this Administration, said Chao.
