GOV. RITTER'S TRANSPORTATION PANEL MEETS TUESDAY

Gov. Bill Ritter's Blue Ribbon Transportation Panel will hold its next meeting on Tuesday, less than week after Gov. Ritter directed the 32-member committee to continue working for another 12 months.

Gov. Ritter established the panel last year. It met more than a dozen times around Colorado and was co-chaired by State Treasurer Cary Kennedy, Colorado Transportation Commissioner Doug Aden, and business and civic leader Bob Tointon.

The panel was scheduled to sunset June 30, but Gov. Ritter has directed the panel to shift into a new phase -- embarking on a public awareness program about the state's dire transportation funding situation, and crafting specific proposals to be considered during the 2009 legislative session.

Tuesday's meeting is scheduled to run from 1 to 4 p.m. at 1290 Broadway, the offices of the Denver Regional Council of Governments. The agenda includes:

1 p.m.
Welcome and Introductions - Panel Co-Chairs Doug Aden and Bob Tointon

1:15 p.m.
Opening Comments - CDOT Executive Director Russ George

1:20 p.m.
Legislative Perspectives on Increasing Transportation Funding - Discussion with state Reps. Bernie Buescher, Randy Fischer, Don Marostica and Frank McNulty and Sens. Dan Gibbs and Sen. Suzanne Williams.

2:30 p.m.
Reports from Working Groups (20 minutes each)
