The 21st century will see the convergence of scientific, technological, and societal factors that advance the possibility of improved concurrent sustainability of natural resources and human institutions. Efforts of natural resource professionals have focused on the way in which human beings interact with the natural world and how to, or not to, sustainably manage resources. This international symposium features such efforts in many countries by looking at changing paradigms in management, complex interactions between a wide range and diversity of human activities and environmental assets, and the technologies that monitor conditions and changes.
