COLORADO RURAL HEALTH GRANTS COUNCIL NOW ACCEPTING FUNDING APPLICATIONS

Gov. Ritter announced today that the Colorado Rural Health Grants Council is now accepting its first funding applications for projects that will improve health care services in rural Colorado.

Gov. Ritter established the Council last year, with UnitedHealth Group providing the $7.5 million in funding that will be awarded to grant recipients through 2012.

"We are very excited about this tremendous opportunity made possible by UnitedHealth Group's generosity," said Dr. Ned Calonge, Colorado's Chief Medical Officer and co-chair of the Colorado Rural Health Care Grants Council. "Through this grant program, we will be able to provide support to our rural communities, where access to essential health care services is vital to the health of our citizens."

The grant program will fund projects that support rural health services. Only organizations outside of Colorado's urban areas that provide outpatient primary care services -- including medical, oral, and mental health services -- are eligible to apply. Letters of intent are due by March 18 and the application deadline is May 15.

The Colorado Rural Health Center is managing the grant program. For more information on the grant application process and eligibility requirements, or to request an application, visit CRHC's website at www.coruralhealth.org/crhc/programs/ruralgrant.htm or contact CRHC's marketing and outreach coordinator, Callie Preheim, at 225 E. 16th Ave., Suite 1050, Denver, CO 80203,
