National Nongovernmental Organizations (NGOs) American School Health Association (ASHA)
ASHA is a multidisciplinary organization that promotes the health,
safety, and well-being of youth in schools as a foundation for academic
success.
ASHA's Program in Action
ASHA is funded to provide Capacity-Building Assistance
for Preventing Chronic Diseases: Promoting Coordinated School Health Programs (CSHPs).
- Developing tailored, culturally competent capacity building plans to
improve coordination of health programs and services in three field test
school districts selected during Year 2.
- Providing technical assistance and support, and evaluating progress
as Local Education Agencies (LEAs) implement the first year of their
capacity building plan.
- Expanding ASHA’s capacity building assistance to include up to 4
state or Tribal Departments of Education or Health to receive assistance
on ways to support their LEAs in improving coordination of school health
programs.
- Promoting improved communication among CDC/DASH Funded Partners,
non-governmental organizations, state leaders, members of higher
education communities and other federal agencies as host of the
Coordinated Health Education Network (CHEN) listserv.
- Facilitating the development of a framework for a collaborative
national initiative referred to as the 2020 Initiative, for advancing
the health, mental health, wellness and safety of children and youth in
schools.
