Lumsden Road
Open to South Fork Campground
Sonora, CA (April 24, 2008) ... The Forest Service today announced
that the Stanislaus National Forest (NF) Groveland Ranger District’s Lumsden
Road, also known as Forest Road 1N10, is now open for public travel from its
gated intersection with Ferretti Road to South Fork Campground.
Motorized access from the campground to Lumsden Bridge is restricted by
Forest Order to small motorized vehicles less than 50 inches in width, including
off-road motorcycles and all-terrain vehicles (ATVs).
Lumsden Road had been closed since October 26, 2007 to provide for public
safety during selected road repair and maintenance operations. The project work
included improving sight distance, expanding Tuolumne River trailhead parking,
improving parking at the Lumsden boat launch, and surfacing about two miles of
steep and rocky sections of the road.
The project’s completion results from a joint partnership between the Forest
Service, City and County of San Francisco Hetch-Hetchy Project, Tuolumne County
Resource Advisory Committee, and the Tuolumne River Outfitter and Guide
Association.
