Bummer Lightning
fire re-kindles
Sonora, CA (August 8, 2007) ...The Forest Service today announced that
a lightning caused fire that started on the Stanislaus National Forest July 25,
and previously determined contained, but not out, flared up last night. The fire
has grown to about 52 acres and is burning on the Calaveras Ranger District,
near Bummers Flat. It's located about 4 miles south of Spicer Meadow Reservoir
and burning in red fir, slash and snags.
Today, 3 hand crews, two strike teams and the Plumas Hotshots are working to
control the blaze. They have it about 30% containment with activity and flare
ups occurring on the eastern perimeter. Air tanker drops were used yesterday and
will continue as needed today. A helicopter is currently ferrying firefighters
to strategic positions.
