Stones River National Battlefield
Junior Ranger Day
Junior Ranger Logo

Saturday April 25, 2009 is Junior Ranger Day. Stones River National Battlefield will be joining state and national parks across the nation by hosting special programs to encourage children and families to enjoy the vast natural and cultural resources in our nation`s parks.

In addition to the opportunity for children ages 6-12 to complete the park`s Junior Ranger activity booklet, all children will have a chance to earn special Junior Ranger day items like patches, pins, and certificates by participating in three special activities near the visitor center.

Our celebration will begin at 1 PM as we share a special Junior Ranger Day cake with young visitors. At 1:30 PM, Junior Ranger candidates will rotate through three special activities where they will learn how to load and fire a Civil War cannon, send messages using flags and telegraphs, and discover the stories of soldiers buried in Stones River National Cemetery. These special activities will run until 4 PM on Saturday. Additional activity sessions will be offered from 1 PM to 4 PM on Sunday April 26, 2009.
