James Webb Space Telescope (JWST)
|
The James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) will locate the first galaxies that formed in the early Universe, connecting the Big Bang to our own Milky Way Galaxy. JWST will have a large mirror over 21 feet in diameter and a sunshield the size of a tennis court. The mission will observe primarily in the infrared range of the electromagnetic spectrum and will reside in an orbit about one million miles from the Earth at the second Lagrange point, L2. JWST is scheduled for launch in 2013.
