U.S. Department of Labor’s ERISA Advisory Council working groups to hold teleconference Sept. 29

WASHINGTON — The Advisory Council on Employee Welfare and Pension Benefit Plans (known as the ERISA Advisory Council) will convene by teleconference Sept. 29 to discuss reports and recommendations by its working groups to be submitted to the secretary of labor.

The meeting will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. EDT. The advisory council plans to begin with the Working Group on the Spend Down of Retirement Assets, followed by the Working Group on Hard to Value Assets/Target Date Funds and concluding with the Working Group on Phased Retirement.

The meeting is open to the public. Those who wish to listen to the teleconference may do so at the U.S. Department of Labor, 200 Constitution Ave. N.W., Room C5515-B in Washington, D.C.

Public comments may be submitted by Sept. 22 to Larry Good, the council's executive secretary. Questions about the meeting or requests to address the advisory council should be directed to Good by telephone at 202-693-8668.

The advisory council — established by the Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA) — consists of 15 members appointed to staggered three-year terms by the secretary of labor to provide advice on policies and regulations affecting employee benefit plans sponsored by private sector employers. The members represent the general public, employers, employee organizations and the fields of insurance, corporate trust, investment management, investment counseling, accounting and actuarial counseling.
