OVERVIEW

Gulf South Pipeline is a “web-like” interstate natural gas pipeline system that gathers gas from basins between Texas and Alabama and delivers it to on-system markets within its footprint and to off-system markets in the Northeast and Southeast through interconnections with third-party pipelines.  Gulf South is located entirely in the Gulf Coast states of Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Florida.

Gulf South is headquartered in Houston, Texas with operational offices in Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and Florida.

Pipeline and Storage Facilities

The Gulf South system is composed of:

  • Approximately 7,700 miles of pipeline (before expansions), having a peak-day delivery capacity of approximately 4.5 billion cubic feet (Bcf) per day;
  • 30 compressor stations having an aggregate of approximately 253,600 horsepower; and
  • Two natural gas storage fields located in Louisiana and Mississippi, having aggregate storage capacity of approximately 131.0 Bcf of gas, of which approximately 83.0 Bcf is designated as working gas.

Markets Served

The markets directly served by the Gulf South system are generally located in eastern Texas, Louisiana, southern Mississippi, southern Alabama, and the Florida panhandle.  These markets include:

  • LDC and municipality load serving communities including New Orleans, Louisiana; Jackson, Mississippi; Mobile, Alabama; and Pensacola, Florida;
  • End-users located across the system, including the Baton Rouge to New Orleans industrial corridor and Lake Charles, Louisiana.

Gulf South also has indirect access to off-system markets through numerous interconnections with other interstate and intrastate pipelines and storage facilities. These pipeline interconnections provide access to markets throughout the northeastern and southeastern United States.

Gas Supply

Prior to the expansion projects, the principal sources of supply for Gulf South were:

  • Regional supply hubs and market centers: offshore Louisiana; Perryville, LA; Henry Hub; Agua Dulce; and Carthage, TX;
  • Wellhead supplies: East Texas, northern and southern Louisiana and Mississippi; and
  • Imported liquefied natural gas (LNG) through the Lake Charles, Louisiana LNG terminal.

Part of the Boardwalk System

Gulf South (shown below in blue) is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Boardwalk Pipeline Partners, LP (NYSE: BWP), a master limited partnership engaged through its subsidiaries in the interstate transportation and storage of natural gas.  Boardwalk owns another interstate natural gas pipeline system called Texas Gas Transmission, LLC (shown below in red).  Texas Gas is a traditional “long-haul” pipeline that moves gas from Gulf Coast supply areas to more distant on-system markets in the Midwest and to off-system markets in the Northeast via interconnections with third-party pipelines.

Boardwalk has also formed a third subsidiary, Gulf Crossing Pipeline Company LLC (not pictured below) to operate the new Gulf Crossing interstate pipeline scheduled for completion by the first quarter 2009.
