Prevention Research Centers (PRC)

Program Strategic Plan: Mission, Vision, and Goal Statements

Mission

The Prevention Research Centers work as an interdependent network of community, academic, and public health partners to conduct prevention research and promote the wide use of practices proven to promote good health.

Vision

People in all communities are empowered to enjoy good health and quality of life. They live in communities that are safe. These communities have physical, social, and policy environments that support the adoption and maintenance of attitudes and behaviors known to promote health and well-being; and they effectively engage health services and community programs to promote prevention across all populations and to prevent or minimize the impact of acute and chronic disease.

Goal Statements

Education

To offer training, technical assistance, and mentoring for all prevention research constituents to enhance competency in the knowledge and skills required for the research and public health initiatives.

Service

Within the Prevention Research Partnership, share our respective expertise as a service to communities to support and engage in health promotion and associated research.

Life Stages

To sustain a balanced portfolio of research, training, and dissemination that addresses the health needs of individuals, families, and communities at all life stages.

Collaboration

To ensure that all partners essential to prevention research share their strengths and enhance their capacity in an alliance of trust.

To continuously identify and involve new primary, secondary, and distant partners that are critical for achieving the program’s mission.

Research

To assess research needs identified by partners.

To conduct prevention research that addresses identified needs.

Research-to-Practice

To conduct research that builds on previous evidence about promising interventions.

To evaluate research on health promotion or disease prevention interventions and recommend interventions to be packaged for replication and/or dissemination and adoption.

To translate and disseminate effective interventions tested by the Prevention Research Centers.

To strengthen mechanisms such as “Networks” and “Consortiums” for implementing prevention research that has been identified as critical to the program’s mission.

In order to achieve these six goal areas, the PRC Program will develop and maintain an infrastructure that will:

Provide support for the Prevention Research Centers to fulfill their missions and goals.

Promote cohesion among researchers, staff, and community partners across multiple disciplines and tasks.

Identify policy and programmatic needs of the program’s partners and supporters.

Inform and educate partners and supporters about the program’s activities, goals, achievements, and needs.

Improve the program’s effectiveness and efficiency and accountability to partners and supporters.
