Researchers from the University of Pittsburgh Epilepsy Center and the Veterans Affairs Pittsburgh Healthcare System are assessing the effectiveness of a 6-week intervention to improve self management skills and the everyday quality of life for people with epilepsy. The intervention in this randomized-controlled trail addresses both psychological factors and knowledge of the disease. Intervention participants are taught how to set and maintain goals to manage epilepsy. The cost and feasibility of the intervention are being evaluated to determine how easily it may be replicated. The effect of the intervention will be monitored for 6–12 months.
