Lecture Summary

Community-based health research includes research with defined populations in a wide variety of settings, including institutions (such as work sites and schools), health care delivery systems and other organizational networks, and the consumer marketplace. The challenge of balancing scientific rigor, dynamic community environments, and ethical concerns has become increasingly complex. This lecture will examine ethical issues related to the scientific, methodologic, and practical concerns of community-based research. The discussion will cover ethical issues related to research participants, professional relationships, and the relationship between science and society.
