Now This is the Way to Run a Forest RAWS Program!

October 2, 2002 - Amy Ziegler is setting a shining example as the Forest RAWS Coordinator for the Six Rivers National Forest. Amy recently sent out a RAWS Newsletter/Log to weather interested folks on the Forest. In the email included with the newsletter she says, "The purpose of this newsletter would be to inform you what is going on specifically with the individual Six Rivers RAWS, and generally to throw out ideas that may help support you in the maintenance of these stations. My intention is for all of the districts to gain knowledge of what was happening on their neighboring districts; they may be experiencing a problem that you have already resolved or maybe they need a part that you happen to have, and vice versa."

Regional RAWS Coordinator Beth Little says, "I think it would be way way cool if she was given special notice on the web page. Amy is one of two "heroes" I have here in R5. I had the pleasure of her working for me as a hotshot while she was on the Redding detail many years ago. She has done nothing but enhance the credibility of women in fire and I'm very, very proud of her. She is now working on a forest that is fostering and taking full advantage of her potential. If you want more evidence of her good work, check out the PocketCards she did for the Forest."

Rick Addy, Center Manager at Fortuna Interagency Command Center says, "I can't thank you enough for planning to recognize Amy for her work here, as it is indeed well deserved. Here is a picture of Amy deep in thought -- about RAWS I'm sure."

Amy, our hat is off to you for your outstanding efforts! It's obvious that you have an understanding and appreciation for weather stations, the National Fire Danger Rating System and the ways they can be used to help keep our firefighters safe! Keep up the good work and watch your mailbox for a small token of our appreciation!
